Let’s Talk Morning Skincare;
Whether you’re looking for a natural glow or the best possible makeup canvas, skincare is the single most important step!
As the daughter of a make up artist, I’ve had this embedded in my brain since a very young age. Ironically, I wasn’t even allowed to wear make up until high school! Instead, she always encouraged me to care for my skin. Fast-forward to today, where I am starting my own career in Makeup Artistry and constantly preaching the significance of proper skincare to everyone I know and love.
Almost two years ago, I invested in a quality skincare regimen and I can’t stress enough how much of a difference it has made for me. Whether you’re struggling with adult acne, dullness, redness, unevenness, fine lines, wrinkles, raging hormones, or just want to control (better yet prevent) all of that nonsense, I hope what I incorporate into my routine can help you. We all have different skin types so I will start off by saying I have dry-normal skin but some of these products are suitable for oily and combination!
The bottom line is we want to take the best care possible and get the best bang for our buck. Some things are worth investing in and your skin should be a priority. So start your day off right with a morning skincare routine that works for you
Here’s the video of my real-life, tired eyed morning skincare routine:
Products mentioned & reasons to love them:
Spa Headbands – There are plenty of these all over Amazon, different materials and price points. I love using them (morning and night) so that my hairline doesn’t get wet, especially since I have curly hair.
Peter Thomas Roth Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel – This cleanser contains both glycolic and salycilic acids, which are proven to exfoliate and reduce fine lines. Just be sure to use an SPF daily, as it can make your skin more sensitive. Also avoid using it on your eyebrows if they are microbladed like mine, as it will cause the pigment to fade much faster.
Skinfix Foaming Oil Cleanser – This is a great, more affordable cleanser that gently removes all of your make up and clears your clogged pores. Just avoid your eye area if you have eyelash extensions, as any oil-based products can cause them to fall out.
Foreo Luna Mini 2 -Your skin will feel so soft as it gently cleans your pores. It’s the most hygienic exfoliating brush since it doesn’t grow bacteria like the other brushes with replaceable heads. This alone makes it worth the investment because it’s a one-time purchase! I also take it into the shower since it’s waterproof. Last but not least – The battery life on it lasts an eternity (Seriously, I’ve only charged it once in over a year!!) It even guides you through a pulsating to move it along the sections of your face
Caudalie Moisturizing Toner – Refreshing and hydrating! Need I say more?
Cotton Pads/Cotton Rounds – These don’t need to be anything fancy! You can even pick some up at your local dollar store.
Skinfix Calm and Rejuvenate Eye Cream – I can’t stress the importance of an eye cream enough! Especially if you’re dry like me. Tip: Whatever you do, don’t put your face cream under/around your eyes; you can only ever use an eye cream under your eye area! Applying your regular face cream there will cause melia (tiny white dots). Also be sure to only ever use your ring finger, as it applies the least amount of pressure to the thinnest, most fragile part of your face. This eye cream is so gentle it can even be used 360 degrees (meaning all the way around), including on your eyelids! Gimme all the hydration.
L’Occitane Aqua Reotier Moisture Prep Essence – The latest addition to my morning skincare regimen. This new product reinforces hydration with a water-repelling absorption. This is super helpful in the Summer time if you feel like you’re sweating or swimming away your skincare/products!
Ole Henrikson Truth Serum – Few skincare products give me this kind of satisfaction; It smells so fresh and feels as if you are applying orange peels to your face, which is a real wake-me-up in the morning!
Laneige Water Bank Serum – No longer available but it smells I N C R E D I B L E ; I believe they’ve replaced it with this essence. I do favour the Ole Henrikson Truth serum but I typically use this one at night since the smell soothes me…
Garnier Ombrelle Face Ultra-Light Cream 60 SPF – Super lightweight and doesn’t leave a white cast on your face. It may be available for less at your local drugstore!
Skinfix Hydrating Lotion – Lightweight yet ultra hydrtating. I also love knowing that I’m not just slathering a bunch of chemicals on my face. This bad-boy is 97.5% natural!
Bend Skincare Anti-Aging Formula – Available in both liquid and softgels. I’ve been taking this on and off since the age of 19 and my skin immediately changes when I stop taking it religiously. No matter what you put on the exterior, if you’re lacking hydration from the inside, the products you slap on your face can only go so far. I love comparing this to how a bad personality ruins all the beauty in a person, ya know??! It’s what’s on the inside that counts. You can take Bend in the morning, afternoon or night.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask – Don’t let the name fool you; you’ll be doing a lot more than sleeping with this on (hence why I’ve included it in my morning skincare regimen). I recently put it to the true test on our way to and from Europe when my lips were naturally at their driest thanks to the pure sky-high altitude air. It fixed me up instantly.
And there you have it! Hopefully this seemingly long list of products didn’t alarm you. As we all know, mom life takes charge but we can practice self care in record-breaking time. I also don’t beat myself up over missing a step here or there; as long as my skin is clean and I have my eye cream, serum, and hydrating lotion on, I can happily go about my day.
Let me know your Holy grail, must-have morning skincare products! I would love to hear what works for you… or what doesn’t!
